Off grid power systems are different than utility interactive solar systems. They must generate power independently from the utility, if there is one, and be isolated from any public power supplier as a safety precaution. Off grid power systems usually are comprised of a inverter that converts a DC power supply intro a proper AC voltage and correct phase. There can either be a modified sine wave output or a pure sine wave output. Modified sine wave AC power is not suitable for powering sensitive electrical components such as a computer but is adequate for powering a motor.
